You ever get a job that seems like it will be a milk run until the shit hits the fan? Well that was this last run of ours. A simple delivery. All we had to do was deliver some guy to some manufacturing place and make sure he gets there undamaged and unspoiled. That last bit should have tipped us off that this wasn’t going to be that easy.
So we take the job, dude gets transferred over to us, we load him into that van and realize we don’t actually know where to deliver him cause we forgot to get an address for the drop off. I know. Great start to any delivery run. So we get a hold of Twitch, who is phenomenal with the net and getting info, to get us the location. Well, Janice is the one that calls and either ignores or doesn’t care that Twitch is clearly in trouble. I guess we’re all disposable to him/her/it? I don’t know, but Geiger is driving so we go rescue Twitch before continuing the job.
After we rescue Twitch is when shit hits the fan; in the form of a freaking rocket hitting the van!!! By the grace of some god or dragon we didn’t die nor was the van destroyed, flipped on its side sure but still appeared drivable. Visibility was shot what with smoke and dust in the air. Shortly after getting out Twitch informs me someone is trying to steal our cargo. So I dash to the rear of the van and come upon….well I’m not entirely sure. It was a person wearing a blind fold with white X’s over the eyes. Not sure if it was a uniform for some group or cult but I do know one thing, they were tough. Like capital T tough. That and shock gloves hurt like hell when they get used against you. I now have a new appreciation for them and the damage they can inflict. We still won the day in the end.
After wounds were patched and healed we still had to figure out how we were going to flip the van back onto the wheels. I tired lifting it but that was a bust. Maybe if we had Cookie there it might have been doable. We did come up with the ingenious idea to use a rope, myself, and a vehicle that Twitch had appropriated to flip the van over. To say it didn’t work would be an understatement because the rope came loose before the van could cross the apex and came right back down. On top of me. It hurt. A lot. But I was still alive considering I had a broken collarbone, pelvis, rib, and arm. Now considering the fact I was probably the strongest person among those present there was no way they were going to be able to lift the van off me so I don’t blame them for leaving me before the police arrived and so the job could be completed. At least I got taken to the hospital were all my broken bits were put back in place. the down side was they tried feeding me. With food. Well given my “condition” it didn’t go very well but they eventually resorted to just giving me water which I can handle. Too bad they started to get wise about what I am but as luck would have it, Frank saved my bacon. Not sure what he’ll want in return but I know I’ll owe him one and I’ll gladly pay it.
